1st Quarter Classes Offer Choices From Coding to Art to Dance to Taiko!    

After-School Enrichment Programs at Waimea Middle School

                        First Quarter Classes 08/20/18 to 10/5/18

Classes open to all middle school students attending public, charter,  private schools and also homeschoolers in Waimea.  Application form downloadable at the bottom of this page, from WMS Facebook page or the school office.  

There is a class supply fee – see below. Please make CHECKS payable to Friends of the Future.

v Usable Art w/ Alexia Carvalho – Tuesdays, 2:30-4 p.m. - $10

Creating designs with different mediums on baseball caps, door hangers, refrigerator magnets, miniature canvas and flower pots. Grades 5 to 8

  v Basic Sewing skills w/ Alexia Carvalho - Thursdays, 2:30-4 p.m. - $10

Basic Sewing skills, learning basic knowledge of sewing machines. Learning how to sew buttons, hems, patchwork. Learning to make pillowcases quilts etc… Grades 5 to 8

  v Capoeira w/ Mario Hill – Thursdays, 3 – 4 p.m. - $10

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form that combines martial arts, music, acrobatics, song and culture into a game that is played by its practitioners. Grades 4 to 8

  v Photograghy w/ Bob Fewell – Tuesdays – 2:30-3:30 p.m. - $10

Students will learn the basics of IPad photography as they develop a visual awareness of their surroundings.

v ‘Ukulele w/ Robert Texeira  – Tuesdays, 2:45-4 p.m. - $10

Students will learn about music, beat, harmony, melody, rhythm, and tempo. The ‘ukulele helps students develop eye-hand coordination as well as independent movement of fingers. Grades 3-8

v Coding w/ Erica Owens 3 Mondays a month 2:30-4 p.m. - $10 will give students a calendar with what Monday’s class will be held on.

Students will be learning how to write codes to program the computer to create art designs. Students will also learn how to write codes to help Moana accomplish tasks and help Angry Birds to get the pigs.

  v Okinawan Style Taiko Drumming w/ Lisa Hallett – Friday, 2:30-3:30 p.m. $10

We carry our drums, perform to music, shout & jump around. Students will also learn about the history and culture of Okinawa. 

Learning about Taiko Drumming also includes learning about the Okinawan history and culture.
