Sat., Jan. 21, 2017 - 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Waimea Park
All invited to festival which will include traditional Hawaiian games of skill and strength for pre-K through kupuna,
health-wellness booths including health screenings by medical students from the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM),
and delicious ʻai pono foods and crafts. Please join us and plan to spend the day!

Congratulations to the 23 WMS students who have been invited to compete in Saturday’s traditional festival, which includes 11 games of skill and strength. Participating WMS students include:
This Native Hawaiian fitness and health program includes traditional Hawaiian games, cultural demonstrations, health and wellness screenings, food and live music. Our WMS Makahiki student participants were awesome at the 2012 Ka Waimea Makahiki Celebration and Games Competition:
Wahine (Grades 7-8 Division):
Hoku’ula Pagan – 6th Place Overall
La’akea Paio – Overall Wahine Decathlete
Kamehana Tachera – 2nd in Kukini (running)
Hiwa Thompson – 1st in O’o ‘ihe (spear throwing)
Tiana Tupe – 4th Place Overall
Tyana Yamamoto – 2nd in O’o ‘ihe (spear throwing)
Kane (Grade 7-8 Division):
Elijah Anakalea-Buckley – 5th Place Overall
Malie Etherton – 7th Place Overall
Joseph Hooper – Tied for 1st w/ Elijah in ‘Ulu maika
Huki (tug of war): Our wahine formed two teams – taking 1st and 2nd Place (Grades 7-8 Division)
