How Are Principals Evaluated?

WMEP principals and associate principals are evaluated yearly in accordance with Minnesota Statutes, sections 123B.143, subdivision 1, clause (3), and 123B.147, subdivision 3, paragraph (b) in implementing this evaluation process. 

Principals

Principals are evaluated on a goal developed in collaboration with their supervisor, the WMEP superintendent, with a mid-year progress review to guide their work. A summative evaluation consists of the goal, data to support the principal’s level of attainment of the goal, and strategies for continued professional growth. 

Timeline for Evaluation Process:

  • August – Principals meet with their supervisor to discuss goal for the year
  • August– Principals submit written goals and activities to meet intended goals
  • August–January – Principals document progress and gather data for the goal
  • January – Principals meet with superintendent to discuss progress on goal
  • January–June – Principals document progress and gather data for the goal
  • June – Principals meets with superintendent to present progress on goals and data gathered throughout the year 
  • June – Superintendent provides written report and evaluation to principals

Associate Principals

Associate principals are evaluated on goals developed in collaboration with their supervisor (a principal and/or superintendent), with a mid-year progress review to guide their work. A summative evaluation consists of the goals, data to support the associate principal’s level of attainment of the goals, and strategies for continued professional growth. 

Timeline for Evaluation Process:

  • August – Associate principals meet with their supervisor to discuss goal or goals for the year
  • August– Associate principals submit written goals and activities to meet intended goals
  • August – January – Associate principals document progress and gather data for each goal
  • January – Associate principals meet with supervisor to discuss progress on goals 
  • January – June – Associate principals document progress and gather data for each goal
  • June – Associate principals meets with supervisor to present progress on goals and data gathered throughout the year 
  • June – Supervisor provides written report and evaluation to principal
