Program OfferingsOur K-3 after-school program, After-School Matters provides students with opportunities in the following areas:
Academics: Homework help, skill development, math/reading/science enrichment courses are offered each session.
Arts: Acting, drawing, vocal lessons, slam poetry, drumming, dance, music production, screen printing are examples of courses that have been offered.
After-School Matters+ provides opportunities for students in Grades 4-8 through our partnerships with the New Hope Y and Stages Theatre Company.
Students receive registration materials in school and are due prior to the beginning of each session. Registration requires parent/guardian approval.
After-School Matters is designed to motivate and engage the students in an enriching yet relaxed atmosphere. To ensure a positive and safe environment, behavior expectations during after school programs are the same as the regular school day. If a student does not meet these expectations a parent/guardian will be contacted.
If a student continually fails to meet behavior expectations a written warning will be sent home. Consequently, if the poor behavior continues, the student will either be suspended or dropped from the program. If necessary the student’s parent/guardian will be contacted at work or at home during the program hours to address any behavior issues, and the parent may be required to pick up their child from school.
Healthy snacks are provided daily at FAIR School Downtown. Examples of after-school snacks: carrots, bananas, graham crackers with peanut butter, granola bars, cheese and crackers, apple sauce and more. All are served with a bottle of water.
FAIR School Downtown Transportation for ASM
If your child will be picked up directly from school, please meet him/her in the back of the school no later than 5:00 pm.
Free school bus transportation is available for students in the After-School Program. However, Minneapolis students are dropped-off at bus stops (sometimes different than their morning bus stops), and suburban students are dropped off at satellite stops within their member district. Students from non-member districts can be dropped off at a designated bus stop within a member district. This transportation is coordinated upon application to the After-School Program and provided by St. Louis Park Transportation.
IMPORTANT: After-School Matters buses are not the same as day school program buses.
FAIR School Crystal Transportation for ASM+
Families must provide their own transportation from After-School Matters+ opportunities, such as FAIR + The New Hope Y and FAIR + Stages.
After-School Matters at FAIR School Downtown is sponsored by the 21st Century Learning Centers grant which is administered by the Minnesota Department of Education.
After-school opportunities for high school students are available through our robust FAIR + classes.
