Home Show Help
I know the band board probably sounds like a broken record by now, but we really need help to make our home show a success. Rather than running a number of smaller fundraisers that take up a lot of everyone's time, this single day event has the capability of raising upwards of $15,000 to support the instrumental music department of Wisconsin Lutheran High School. This is only possible if you offer some of your time to help. If you have older children or family friends who could possibly help, please feel free to point them to the sign-up link as well. Let's fill up the volunteer roster!

Weekend Shows
The info sheets for this weekend went out last week and are available in hard copy form outside the band office. You can expect the next round of information regarding other upcoming performances later this week.

Student Sign-Out Procedures
As Mrs. Reinke mentioned, students who ride the bus to competitions must be signed out by a parent. If you give your permission for your child to ride home with another family, please send a note along to me. (signed by you or emailed) To sign out, please follow the band from the performance venue to the buses and check in with a chaperone while the students are packing everything up. After things are packed up, the next available time to sign students out is upon departure. (After the awards ceremony)

Instrument Transportation
New this year, all instruments will be transported on the trucks. Students will be given a number tag with the Wisco logo on it that must remain on their instrument case for the season. Then, each tag will be checked in just like roll call on the bus. If you are arriving separately (i.e. Waukesha shows) you are responsible for getting the instrument to and from the competition. That could mean that you bring your instrument with you, or make arrangements for it to be loaded at Wisco.

Football Game - Friday Night
We perform for the football game tomorrow night and that info sheet is attached. Plan on performing unless you hear otherwise. It looks like we could be seeing some storms, but the official call will be made by 5:15pm tomorrow.

Competition Season - Opening Weekend
The band kicks off the competitive season on Saturday, September 24 at Waukesha South High School. Sunday finds the band at Waukesha West. Please see the attached info sheets for accurate times and agenda items.

Rehearsal Saturday - September 17 @ 3:00-6:30pm
This coming Saturday we have our 1 weekend rehearsal of the year. This is a chance for us to work on finalizing details of our show without the stress of a school day preceding rehearsal. As this is a required rehearsal, any unavoidable absences need to be excused with Mr. Petersen as soon as possible.

Ear Plugs
Thank you to all of you who ordered earplugs. They are on there way and should be here soon.

Instrument Tags
New for competitions this year, we will be transporting all instruments on the trucks. That includes small instruments such as upper woodwinds and brass. Each student will be given a luggage tag that must be visible on their case. If you are getting signed out after any show, you can either leave your instrument with the band or you must sign out the instrument as well. If you have any questions about this process, please don't hesitate to ask.

Home Show Volunteers
Be sure to check out the sign-up page under "Parent Resources" on the band website. We need as much help as we can get. If you want to help but don't see anything listed that you can do, contact Mr. Petersen for more behind the scenes opportunities.

Friday Football Game
We perform this Friday at the home game. Please note the attached info sheet. The start time is back to 7:00pm and the loading and arrival times have been adjusted as such. Also, we are in need of a number of parent helpers for the game as well.

Rehearsal on Wednesday
Percussion and color guard meet at 5pm. Everyone else is ready to go by 6pm. We have a lot of work to get done before we perform on Friday night!

Home Show Help Needed
There are many ways to help out with our invitational and this year is no different. We need all the help we can get to make this day a success. Please consider helping in any way that you can.

Notifications from WLHS Band
In the case of inclement weather, the cancellation announcement will be made on the WLHS Band Facebook page, via email, and text message.

When you registered your child for marching band you also submitted your cell phone number. The number provided will be used to text you in case of emergency or cancellation. In setting up the system to text all of you, you may receive a text from Remind.com. It will have my name associated with it if you don't recognize the number. If you have any concerns about this, please let me know.

Uniform Updates
If you ordered shoes and gloves, they have not arrived yet. I am hopeful that they will be here by Friday, but if they don't, you may wear any dark colored shoes. Gloves will be provided.

Back by popular demand, the 2016 Band Lock-In is this coming Friday-Saturday. Although sleeping over at Wisco is optional, the rehearsals are mandatory.  Make sure to have a parental excuse for any missed rehearsals.

Parents: an email was sent with the permission slip and the info sheet. Be sure to check both of those documents over in preparation for Friday night. Note: the permission slip is required for all students spending the night at Wisco.

Musical Week! | Rehearsal Updates

Mary Poppins opens this week, and with that comes extended rehearsals and time commitments. In the interest of students, parents, and directors, there will be no Jazz, Brass, Percussion, Woodwind, or Saxophone rehearsal this week.

Congratulations to all of you on excellent performances this past weekend!

Veteran's Day Parade Details

posted Nov 5, 2015, 5:40 AM by Quinten Petersen

8:30 a.m. Arrive at WLHS and help load equipment trailer and buses.

9:00 a.m. Leave for parade staging area.

11:00 a.m. Parade steps off

1 – 2 p.m. Approximate time of return (depending on our position within the parade)

Attendance: Attendance is required at ALL events. If an emergency arises, please notify Mr. Petersen immediately – cell phone (608) 217-6216

Uniform: As we are not marching, we will not be wearing our marching band uniforms. However, please represent our school proudly by wearing any warm WLHS clothing. The weather looks like it will be a great day, but do be prepared for the cooler temperatures and wind by the lake. (If you dress in layers and get too warm, you can stash the extra layers under your chair on the trailer.)

Transportation: We will travel by school bus to and from the parade site. Buses were generously donated by the WLHS Student Council. All students must return to WLHS on the bus following the parade in order to turn in their uniform.

Instruments: You are responsible for your instrument at all times. It should travel with you on the bus and return with you after the parade.

Parade Route: For a map of the parade route, please visit http://www.honorourmilitary.us/ Parents, please come out and view the band as we play along the parade route. Show support not only for our band and school, but also for all those who have served or are currently serving our country.

Other Notes:

- Students will be given a sheet of plastic to put over their music for the parade to serve as a wind screen.

- There will be water available on the trailer, but it may be a good idea to pack a small snack if you need.

- When we’re not playing, wave to the crowd along the parade route. Thank Vets! Have fun!

- Our driver is a Veteran and is donating his time to drive for us. Be sure to recognize his act of service and thank him!

- At the end of the parade, we will unload the trailer and be shuttled back to the Harley Davidson Museum where our buses will pick us up and bring us back to WLHS. DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING ON THE SHUTTLE!

- Remember the purpose for the day: Thanking Veterans for their service to our country and the sacrifices they make.
