Grade School Band Announcements

Important Oct. 16 Events!

We are so excited for two very important things coming up this Monday, Oct. 16th. 

FIRST, we welcome our beginner students--the CONCERT BAND--to their very first Monday night band rehearsal.  The beginners will meet in the library (on our 2nd floor).  You can find the library by entering through the Visitors' entrance and going upstairs and following signs. You can also enter by the band room (North Side) and go up the stairs where the library is right at the top! I will have older students around to help direct you to the right spot.  Band starts at 6:15pm.

SECOND, we are collecting our fundraiser forms on Monday night! WE MUST HAVE ALL FORMS on Monday!  Please contact me if there is an issue with getting the forms/money turned in by Monday night!

Solo & Ensemble Festival 2/18/2017

WHAT: Solo & Ensemble Festival 2017
WHEN: Saturday, February 18th from 8-noon at WLHS

**SOLO SCHEDULE IS BEING MADE THIS WEEK and will be emailed and posted on our website by Friday! 

- Please arrive 20-30 minutes before your child's first event.
- Warm-up area is in the Auditorium this year
- Information, Meeting Place, and Results (Festival Headquarters) in the ATRIUM
- Proceed to performance room 5 minutes before performance time
- You can wait for results that will be posted in the Atrium (usually 10-30 minutes after your performance)
- Every student receives a medal for their performance
- Critique sheets will be given to child's lesson teacher so they can look it over and discuss at their next lesson
- You may leave when your solo is completed (and after you've received your results/medal if you choose to wait!

Jazz Festival - Jan. 21, 2017

I am so excited to remind you about the annual Wisconsin Lutheran College Jazz Festival coming up on Saturday, January 21st!!  This is an exciting and educational event for our young jazz musicians where they will get to perform in a clinic setting with professional jazz performers.  They will also participate in instrument-specific master classes and an improvisation session. 

Here's the basic info for the day:

WHAT: 2017 WLC Jazz Festival
WHERE: Fine Arts Building at Wisconsin Lutheran COLLEGE
WHEN: Jan. 21 from 12:30-4:50p.m.
WHAT TO BRING:  Instrument, Jazz Music (Nutcracker Swing and Ain't Misbehaving), water bottle and snack (if you prefer) -- A snack will also be provided by the WL GS Band Program.

The schedule for the day:
12:30-12:50 -- Arrive on campus and find homeroom
12:50 pm - Jazz Improv Clinic
1:40 pm - Warm-up in the Wolf Rehearsal Hall
2:20 pm - Performance Clinic in the Schwan Concert Hall
3:10 pm - Snack Time and Break
4:00 pm - Master classes
4:50 pm - Dismissed!

If your family has a conflict, please let me know ASAP.  Our band program does pay a per student fee as well as a t-shirt fee for our students to attend, so we appreciate all you can do to have your child at the festival--even if they can only come for a portion of the festival!!  This is a valuable experience on a college campus with world-class musicians!!

There is a 7:00 pm concert in the Schwan Concert Hall at WLC (in which the high school groups are performing).  You are invited to attend, but you will need to contact the box office to get a ticket!

Registration for new band students is tonight (and Monday) from 6-8pm in the WLHS Auditorium! Come try out all the instruments, sign up for band, rent an instrument, meet the teachers, and more!!! Band is open to students in 5-8th grade!!!

16-17 Band Registration is up!

Band and Lessons Start 9/21

Our first rehearsal for ALL STUDENTS is Monday, Sep. 21 from 6:15-7:15. There will be ice cream, mixer games, a fundraiser kickoff and a parent meeting.  See you there!

Lessons begin the week of Sep. 21. Watch your email for a lesson schedule!

2015-2016 Seating Auditions - MAY 20th

All 5th-7th grade band students will do their seating auditions on Wednesday, May 20.  Each student will be scheduled for a 6-10 minute time slot between 5 and 8:30 p.m.  Audition packets will be handed out next Monday, April 27.  Contact Mrs. Hohenstein with any questions!
