ATHLETIC Announcements:

Girls Softball will be dismissed at 2:00 today for their scrimmage with South Park.  Bus will depart at 2:15. Game will begin at 3:30.

A reminder to anyone trying out for cheerleading:  Tryouts are next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, May 29th, 30th and 31st.  You must have a PIAA sports physical on file for the 2017-2018 school year in order to tryout. If you have any questions, please see Coach Marlo.


Spring coaches have submitted a list of students that have not returned their Spring sports uniforms.  You MUST return your uniforms by Thursday, May 24, 2018 to the Athletic Office. All uniforms must be in a bag marked with your name and sport.

GENERAL Announcements:

Attention All Students:  A reminder: Please be sure to begin to settle all of your school debts:  return library books, classroom books, uniforms and equipment and cafeteria debts. CASH ONLY PLEASE.


MAJORETTE & COLOR GUARD TRYOUTS will be Tuesday, May 29 and Friday, June 1.  Please see sign up sheets for times in the main office.


There will be a History Club meeting on Friday after school in room 204.

A very limited amount of yearbooks will be available for purchase next week (beginning Tuesday, May 29).  Cost is $85. Only CASH can be accepted. See Mrs. Breisinger in Room 123 during HR.

 



GUIDANCE Announcements:

Seniors are reminded to turn in their final paperwork to guidance to Mrs. Hornyak.  If you were late coming in and did not receive your graduate survey and release, please come by and collect one from the guidance office.


Information regarding Summer school is available in the guidance office.  Please come by and pick up a packet if needed. Registration for some programs is limited so make sure to not delay to collect the information.


Information has been received  from the Steamfitters Local Union #449 Journeymen and Apprentice Training Committee that it will be accepting applications for the 5-year Building Trades and Mechanical Equipment Service Apprenticeship Programs in June.  Check out the apprenticeship binder for more information or call 412-481-0333.

DUE MAY:

The Worgul Law Firm Scholarship in the amount of $5,000 is now available.   Students must be accepted to or currently enrolled in a college, university or graduate school across the United States, maintain a 3.0 or higher, and have demonstrated outstanding service to the community, high initiative to further their education and a strong academic performance.   Information and the application are available online. Applications must be received by May 31, 2018.


DUE JUNE/JULY/AUGUST:

The Aspiring Animation Professional Scholarship Program:  This $1,000 scholarship is for high school seniors who intend to pursue an animation related field at an accredited post-secondary school or college. The application deadline is June 1, 2018.


Attention students pursuing a trade school:   Mike Rowe's Work Ethic Scholarship Program is now available for the fifth year.  Students planning to complete a trade-related Program are invited to apply--calling all plumbers, carpenters, electricians, welders, auto technicians and anyone getting trained for skilled jobs that are in demand.  Students must apply online by June 4th.


Duquesne University is pleased  to announce the date and time of this year's DuquesneFest.  Sunday, June 10th, beginning at 8:00 am. This is the largest open house of the year.  DuquesneFest provides fun and information to high school seniors and their families . Abbott and Fenner Business Consultants are offering a $1,000 scholarship for an essay on the following topic:  Describe your educational career and life goals. Explain your plan for achieving these goals. Include your degree/major, why you selected it, and how this degree/major will help you achieve your goals.  Deadline is June 14, 2018.


Edinboro University is having summer visit days on June 22nd, July 20th or August 3rd from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  To register, visit www.edinboro.edu/visit. Edinboro will waive the $30 application fee for all students who attend one of the programs.


Duquesne University  will be hosting a free Pharmacy Exploration day this summer.  This is a one day summer camp for freshmen through rising seniors.   Sign up for one day from June 25th through June 29th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Duquesne's campus.   Registration deadline is June 15th.   Go to duq.edu/pharmacy exploration as seating is limited.

Attention Senior Athletes!  The Big Sun Scholarship is offering a $500 scholarship to help young athletes in their academic pursuits.  The successful candidate must be a senior and currently involved in some sport. Deadline is June 19, 2018.


The Nursing Schools Almanac - a $1,000 scholarship to an aspiring nurse. It is open to seniors who plan to pursue a college education in nursing including LPN/LVN, ADN and BSN programs. Students must be in good academic standing and on track to graduate from high school. August 31st is the application deadline. Students must apply online.
