ATHLETIC Announcements:

Varsity Golf will host Ringgold High School at Butler’s Golf Course beginning at 3:00.  Players will be dismissed at 1:45. Bus will depart at 2:00.

Girls  Soccer will depart for their match at Trinity High School at 4:15.  JV game begins at 6:00. Varsity at 7:15.

Girls Varsity Tennis will play Penn Hills High School at Boyce Park beginning at 3:30.  Players will be dismissed at 1:45. Bus will depart at 2:00.

Good Luck to Kelsey Wagner who will compete in the Girls Golf Section Qualifiers today.

Big Jag Little Cub is closing open enrollment TODAY.   If you want to be apart of the club please see a current member or visit Mrs. Cook during HR to fill out the google form no later than TODAY, 2:30 PM.  Past members were automatically re-enrolled. If you no longer want to be apart of the club, please email Mrs. Cook.

There will be a Prom Committee meeting in room 122 after school on Thursday, September 20th.  Please see Mrs. Petersavage with any questions.

Any student interested in traveling to France & Italy in the summer of 2020 there will be an informational meeting on Thursday, September 20th @ 6 pm in ROOM 206.  For further information see Mrs. Sydeski, Mrs. Stoicovy, or Mrs. Leopold.

There will be a History Club meeting Friday after school in room 204. See Mr. Kaszonyi if you cannot attend.

Attention  All Students:  Mr. Giger is looking for anyone who enjoys reading novels and who would like to attend this years Literary Festival being held at Baldwin High School.  This event is open to all students. Those interested should see Mr. Giger as soon as possible.

Attention Students:  Anyone interested in participating in a ski trip to Vermont and who has not yet received the proposal information should see Mr. Giger or Mr. McClain as soon as possible.  A reminder to those planning to go on the trip - deposits are due September 28th. We need a minimum of 30 students to make the trip happen.

Attention Seniors and Juniors:  A SAT Prep course is being offered  on 6 consecutive Tuesdays beginning September 25  from 6 PM to 8 PM. Cost of registration is $65. Cash or check payable to “Thomas Jefferson High School” are accepted.  Register with Mrs. Hornyak in the guidance office.

Attention students interested in Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Rice University and the University of Chicago -- An admissions officer from each  school will be traveling to Pittsburgh this fall to speak with prospective students and their families.  The date is Sunday, September 23rd. The University of Pittsburgh will be hosting a TJ Application Day on September 27 at 1:00 p.m.  All seniors who apply to the University of Pittsburgh at this event will have their application fee waived.  Sign up to participate in the Counseling Office.


Seniors, TJ will be hosting a Penn State application event on October 3 at 1:00 p.m.  If you apply to Penn State at the event, your application fee will be waived!  This applies to all Penn State campuses!

AES ENGINEERING  is offering a $500 scholarship award to a senior based on an essay no more than 1,000 words answering the following question:  WHEN YOU LOOK BACK ON YOUR LIFE IN 30 YEARS, WHAT WOULD IT TAKE FOR YOU TO CONSIDER YOUR LIFE SUCCESSFUL? WHAT RELATIONSHIPS OR ACCOMPLISHMENTS  WILL BE IMPORTANT ON THIS JOURNEY? This scholarship is due October 6TH.

Attention Juniors   - the PA Society is pleased to announce the 13th annual Benjamin Franklin Scholar Award.   This is a writing competition open to all PA public school students in their junior year.The first place prize is worth $6,000. Students submit an original essay of not more than 750 words discussing the modern day relevance and applicability of a selected  writing by Benjamin Franklin. Information can be found in the scholarship binder and online. Essays are due by Friday, October 12th to Mr. Kilcoyne in the guidance office.

Any senior that has caddied at a golf course for more than two years can apply for the Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship.   You must have a strong caddie record, excellent academics, outstanding character and  financial need. Deadline for this scholarship is October 30th.   

Attention Seniors:  The Coca Cola Scholars Program Foundation is offering 150 $20,000 scholarships for seniors who have demonstrated leadership skills and participation in their communities through volunteering as well those who have excelled academically.   Applications are accepted online through October 31st.

If you are a senior who holds a cumulative GPA OF 3.5 or higher and Westminster College in New Wilmington is your first choice for the fall of 2019, please see Mr. Kilcoyne about the Jerb Miller Scholarship.  This scholarship is worth $76,000.00 over a 4 year period and is by nomination only.  Please see Mr. Kilcoyne by November 1, 2018.
