WIXOM COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDED GRANT

 FROM

UNITED WATER FOUNDATION INC.

The Wixom Community Foundation is proud to announce receipt of a grant from the United Water Foundation, Inc. in the amount of $5,000 directed to the Wilfred Manufacturing Scholarship Fund.

Manufacturing, tooling, plastics and metal working account for a significant amount of the Wixom area tax base and employment opportunities.   Currently, there exists a void in the availability of manufacturing specialists.  As a means to fill that void, the Wixom Community Foundation (WCF) has launched a workforce development initiative and now offers scholarships to qualifying high school graduates interested in a career in the manufacturing, tooling, plastics and metal working industry.  Targeted individuals include those that may not be college bound, however, possess a unique ability to visualize and conceptualize parts, processes and mechanical components.  The Foundation also works within the industry to identify and facilitate internships for scholarship awardees.

The primary mission of the United Water Foundation is to encourage innovative programs in the areas of education, environment, and health and humanitarian services in communities around the United States.  The UW Foundation upholds its mission and inspires and serves communities by supporting responsible investment in other nonprofit organizations meeting the needs of today’s society exclusively for charitable, educational, scientific, literary, health, environmental and public safety purposes.  According to Kevin W. Chandler, United Water Vice-President of Contract Services, the Wilfred Manufacturing Scholarship is exactly the type of program to which the UW Foundation is dedicated.  “We are pleased to contribute to the Wixom Community Foundation and to support their efforts in providing career training assistance to the next generation and filling a human resource void in the manufacturing industry”.

WCF Chairman, Nicholas Kennedy, expressed his gratitude for the United Water Foundation Grant.  “For the UW Foundation to recognize the good work of the Wixom Community Foundation and the value of the Wilfred Manufacturing Scholarship Program is phenomenal.  Through the support of the United Water Foundation, the Wixom Community Foundation is able to assist our manufacturing constituents, provide hope and support for a segment of our youth that may have been overlooked, and generally strengthen the bonds that truly makes Wixom a unique and desirable community.”
