"What the world cares about is not what you know, but what you can do with what you know."

With a generous gift from the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation and the Citrone Fund, the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit has developed a new space, designed to serve as a catalyst for transforming education in our region. The “Center for Innovation and Creativity in Education” facility is a state-of-the-art collaborative initiative that provides a much needed space for students, teachers and administrators to learn new strategies and techniques required to meet the demands of our students.

With a focus on innovation and creativity, the facility is an active learning environment with hands-on training and work spaces that allow all participants to work with new technologies and processes. Project based learning and team building strategies are employed to create an environment that fosters collaboration as well as an entrepreneurial spirit.

Research tells us that the students of today must learn to be creative thinkers and problem solvers. These skills will be vital to their future success and it is essential that our schools evolve and embrace this belief.

As it is the mission of the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit to provide resources, education, assistance and leadership, we are committed to this project as a means to provide the tools necessary for our schools to offer a 21st century learning environment that effectively prepares students for the future they are facing.
