Materials Science Center
MSC is a resource for instrumentation and expertise to characterize materials and nanostructures. The MSC:
Faculty and staff with diverse expertise use the center and are available to help solve materials-related problems. The MSC serves a wide audience representing over 40 departments and 5 colleges at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The MSC is also affiliated with the Soft Materials Laboratory, which specializes in polymer synthesis and characterization of physical and mechanical properties of polymers and other materials.
This image of a cell from a corn kernel helped UW–Madison botanist Marisa Otegui find important signaling proteins outside the parts of the cell with which they are usually associated. The image was produced with a tomography electron microscope in Boulder, CO. A new microscope recently installed in the Materials Science Center will allow this work to be done in Madison. More »
