Facilities Days Open House 2017 is the 3rd annual showcase of core facilities within the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus with a focus on instrumentation and resources for materials research. This event is hosted by the College of Engineering Shared Facilities, the Department of Geoscience Research Facilities, and the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Research & Graduate Education.
Learn about new instrumentation coming to the College of Engineering facilities and the capabilities of instrumentation in Geosciences. Vendors will demo Focused Ion Beam-Scanning Electron Microscopy (FIB-SEM), Electron Beam Lithography (EBL), Field Emission Electron Probe Microanalysis (EPMA), Transmission Electron Microscopy Orientation Imaging, and Time-of-flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (TOF-SIMS). Attend a student research and campus facility poster session and tour the College of Engineering and Geosciences facilities.
The purpose of this event is to increase awareness of the multitude of materials research instrumentation and other resources available on campus both to maintain efficient interactions among departments as well as to increase industrial interaction with students and campus resources.
More information can be found on the event page.
The Materials Science Center (MSC):
Provides state-of-the-art instrumentation, support facilities, and expert technical assistance for research and education in materials.
Serves materials science research needs of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the state of Wisconsin, and the nation.
Faculty and staff with diverse expertise use the center and are available to help solve materials-related problems. The MSC serves a wide audience representing over 40 departments and 5 colleges at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The MSC is also affiliated with the Soft Materials Laboratory, which specializes in polymer synthesis and characterization of physical and mechanical properties of polymers and other materials.
