Capital Area Tech Center Student of the Month... Mackenzie Guerin is a junior from Winthrop High School enrolled in the Certified Nursing Assistant program.  She has enjoyed the small class size and the opportunities to help people in her clinical experiences at Maine Veteran's Home and Augusta Rehabilitation Center.  Her instructor, Ms. Bethany Sherman states, "Mackenzie is great student and will make a great addition to the medical field."  When she is not in school, Mackenzie is working at China Empress or gearing up for competitions with the Diamond Cheer Athletics team.  In the future, Mackenzie plans on pursuing further education and entering the natural medicine field.

Congratulations to Winthrop High School juniors Hannah Nickless (left) and Sam Moody (right) for placing in the Challenge USA Competitions.  Hannah received first place for Medical Math and Sam received second place for Culinary Arts. We are all very proud of you for your hard work and excellent results.

Congratulations to Mrs. Mertzell who was awarded the "Thumb's Up" for January 2017. WHS faculty is given the opportunity to share praise for "a job well done". Mrs. Mertzell is a true professional who is always working hard with students to help them achieve success.

Fine Arts at Winthrop High School: studio arts, chorus, band, dramatic arts...
WHS drama one-acts... The cast list for the competition play is up! Congratulations to all who tried out and break a leg to the preparation and performance that comes next. The HS One-Act competition is on March 10th at 7pm at Lawrence High School. They will tackle the difficult subject of school violence in an enlightening way that if all could understand, would bring an end to the hurt and desperation that causes it.

Open Studio at WHS on Mondays and Wednesdays
Mrs. Johnson is holding open studio on Monday, October 3, after school until 3:30.  Open Studio will take place on most Mondays and Wednesdays; see Mrs. Johnson's website: https://sites.google.com/a/winthropschools.org/whs-visual-arts/open-studio, for dates.  It is open for all current art students, as well as students who are applying to art school and need help building a portfolio as part of their college application.  

The sign up sheet is outside of the art room; She is limiting studio to 15 students per day.
