What We Did In Class:

  1. Passed back old assignments, cell tests and grade sheets.

  2. Handed out Quarter 3 biology bucks - they are worth extra credit at the end of the quarter

  3. Honors Biology:  Worked in the computer lab on the science fair project.  Twenty days until the local fair at WMS.

  4. Regular Biology:  Handed out article, “An Insider’s Look” and worksheet that goes with it.  It is due on Tuesday, January 31


Reminders:

  1. “An Insider’s Look” worksheet is due on Tuesday, Jan. 31



Action Items:

  1. Get your biology bucks from Mrs. Johnson.

What We Did In Class:

  1. Worked with microscopes.  Looked at the following prepared slides:  string, letter, and cork.

  2. Worked with microscopes.  Made a wet-mount slide using the pond water with mosquito larvae in it.

What We Did In Class:

  1. Stamped the assignment, “Life Under the Microscope”

  2. Took notes about cells.

  3. Handed back matter packets and grade sheets.

  4. Worked on the organelle hunt.

  1. Anyone taking the retake matter test needs to finish the test retake ticket and take the test before Jan. 19.

  2. Cell Test is on Thursday, January 19

  3. End of the Quarter is January 19th



Action Items:

  1. Copy the notes below into your packet.

  2. Show Mrs. Johnson your “Life Under the Microscope” worksheet for her to stamp it.

  3. Organelle Hunt will need to be finished. All of the clues for each organelle are taped on the large cabinet doors in the science room.

  1. Worked on the microscope worksheet in the packet. It is due tomorrow (Thursday).  Look in the book on page. 641 for a diagram and information.

  2. Read the article, “Life Under the Microscope” in the packet and then complete the worksheet that goes with it.  This is due on Friday.

What We Did In Class:

  1. New Seats Today & New Classroom Helpers

  2. Passed out 1 page of new packet on CELLS

  3. Entry today:  What I Know About Cells, page 2

    1. Quick write for 4 minutes about what you know or think you know about cells.

    2. Share what you wrote with the students at your table.

    3. Add one new thing to your list - mark this with a star.

    4. Each table shares out loud one thing on the list.

  4. Watch Bill Nye video on cells.

  5. Write 3 new facts that you learned about cells from the video.

  6. Turn in the cell sheet to Mrs. Johnson - she will give it back later.

  1. Cell Test is on Thursday, January 19

  2. End of the Quarter is January 19th



Action Items:

  1. Get Cell Packet from Mrs. Johnson

  2. Make an entry - what you know about cells.  Write down 3 to 5 things that you know about cells.  Then write that you were absent today.

What We Did In Class:

  1. We have a new seating chart!

  2. Honors:  Mr. Shollmeir came to talk to us about the science fair.

    1. Be thinking of how you can “ramp up” your project.  This is not a 5th grade experiment…

    2. Pick something that you are passionate about.

  3. Regular:  We read an article about Dihydrogen Monoxide - this article tricked us to think this was a bad chemical.  Really it is water!  This article showed us about bias!


Reminders:

  1. Whirlybird project (handwritten lab sheet, graph, and typed lab report) is due on Monday, December 5

  2. Test is on Wednesday, December 7


Action Items:

  1. You are exempt from this in-class activity.

    2. You will need to turn in 3 things for this activity:

      1. Handwritten lab sheet

      2. Graph

      3. Typed Lab Report (see the example and use the template that I sent to your gmail address)
