Mission: The Sage Park and Windsor High School counselors are dedicated to providing services that assist students in reaching their maximum academic and personal potential. We help students understand themselves and others, increase their awareness of the world they live in, and develop decision making skills that will enable them to make responsible choices.

Windsor Public Schools recognizes that comprehensive school counseling programs are essential to each student’s academic achievement, personal and social development, and career success. College and career readiness is a major aspect of the experience at our schools. School counselors serve as a school leader, student advocate, and team collaborator to remove systemic barriers to student success.

What is a Student Success Plan (SSP)?

A Student Success Plan (SSP) is a collection of programs and services that address the academic, career, social/emotional and physical development of students in grades 6-12. This plan is developed to address every student's needs and interests, and it helps students recognize, understand, and achieve post-secondary educational and career goals.

Our counseling department uses the College, Career and Life Readiness (CCLR) Framework to prepare middle and high school students for success after graduation. Each student's plan is maintained through Naviance. This helps us define, measure, and track student success for our college, career and life readiness initiatives. The result is purposeful approach to CCLR that drives long-term student engagement and better outcomes.


About comprehensive school counseling:

Goals are designed for each grade level (6 - 12)

Classroom and individual activities are aligned with objectives of the SSP

Each student's progress is measured towards the SSP.


School counselors, in addition to providing counseling services, provide instruction in the following essential skills required for success in school, community, and work settings:

Academic/learning skills

Communication skills

Relationship/friendship skills

Decision making/problem solving/self-management skills

Organization and planning skills

Academic, college, and career planning skills


Certification

All school counselors are state licensed and hold master’s degrees in the area of school counselor or human services.
