Towers Falling by Jewell Parker Rhodes

Towers Falling is a middle grade novel centered around the events of September 11, 2001, but set in 2016. Deja is a fifth grader whose family have fallen on some hard times. They work together to get through their struggles, and Deja starts fifth grade at a new school, where the classes are focused on the events of 9/11. Deja and many of her classmates don't understand why they should care about these events, but learn and grow throughout the novel. The students learn about the historical events, and along the way, learn about themselves and their friends and families.

Like The Parker Inheritance, this novel may be better for older students or for students to read and discuss with their parents, as it does touch on some very important, but sad, topics. I loved this book and read it in two days!
