Helpful Hints for Success in School:

Attendance: Attendance is important. All absences require a written excuse upon your child’s return to school. Please see the school handbook for more information.

Bus Numbers: Each child received a bus tag with his/her bus number on it. This number is the bus that they take from school to home at the end of the school day. Please leave this on your child’s backpack. It will help to ensure that your child gets on the correct bus.

Reading: Students will grow a lot this year as readers and writers. Setting an at home reading time will help your child grow as a reader. Students will be sent home with take home readers. Please support your child by reading with him/her and allowing them to read to you. Children enjoy this one on one time and you will get to see them connect with words and reading.

Breakfast: If you are planning to allow your child to have breakfast in the morning and you are transporting your child to school, please make sure they arrive at school with enough time to eat breakfast. School begins at 8:30.

Communication: Communication is key. Please feel free to write me a note or give me a call if you have any questions or concerns. My school email address is: nledney@windberschools.org. Your child will receive a folder and the folder is a great place to include excuses and notes. Please check your child's folder daily for any classroom news.

Clothing/Coats: Clothing should be easy for your child to pull up when he/she uses the bathroom. It should be appropriate for the weather. When weather is a little chilly, we may still go outside. Also shoes that are easy for students: slip on, velcro, or tie if they know how to.

Labels: Daily belongings need to be labeled with your child’s name for easy identification. This includes lunchbox, backpacks, jackets, hats and personal items. Please make sure your child’s backpack is big enough to hold a folder and Library book.

Lunch Numbers: Students will receive their lunch number on their bus tag. Please practice this number with your child.

Snack: Students should bring a healthy snack. They can bring in 5 snacks in their snack bag.
