NEWS FROM THE COUNSELING OFFICE

  1. 2nd Annual Parent University, Tuesday, April 18 from 6:30pm-8pm—FREE!  See flyer  more information about the sessions!  https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxB22_bHSyw4LWROOWpHZWI0U3M/view?usp=sharingc
  2. SENIORS—Start gathering the information about the scholarships you have received.  You will be completing a form during FOCUS the Week of April 18 so that we can honor you at Awards Day.
  3. SENIORS—Kellie Whited Drive to Succeed Scholarship (honors one of the original school counselors at WCHS who passed away).  Must demonstrate academic performance suggesting success at college or technical school, ability to overcome difficulties/obstacles and seize opportunities, financial need, personal integrity.  Application Link:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0bpqZYFCylXd1VjTEUxeWhsMWs/view
  4. SCHOLARSHIPS--Many new scholarships listed on the website.  Visit school website and click on “Scholarship” link on main page.   https://sites.google.com/a/wilsonk12tn.us/wilsoncentral/
  5. JUNIORS—State ACT Scores--The ACT scores from the state ACT that juniors took at school will be mailed from ACT to your home in five to eight weeks after the test.  They normally are mailed in batches.  One part of the alphabet may get scores before another part.  Colleges may be contacting students to say they received their scores because they are sent to the colleges electronically from ACT.  The colleges get them much faster than the students.  After students receive your score report in the mail, they can create an ACT student account to view future scores and register for future national test dates. Students will need a student number from the ACT score report to create their account.  If you have taken the ACT on a national test date BEFORE you took the state ACT, you should already have an ACT account and may be able to log in to see your state ACT scores when they are available.
  • SENIORS--Seniors may be receiving financial aid award letters from their colleges. A financial aid award letter tells you what financial aid you qualify for at the college based on the FAFSA and/or merit scholarship criteria. You may accept all, some, or none of the financial aid.  Be sure to keep in mind your starting salary when you graduate if you decide to take out a loan.  If your financial situation has changed and you need more financial help, contact the financial aid office at the college.  Make sure to reply by the deadline especially if you have not decided to attend that college. The money can be given to another deserving student.  For more information about financial aid award letters, visit https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa/next-steps/accept-aid  or https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/pay-for-college/financial-aid-awards/your-financial-aid-award-explained
  • SENIORS--Some of you are getting letters from the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC) which is the state organization that gives out state financial aid saying you do NOT qualify for the TSAA grant.  This is a special grant based on the financial need demonstrated on the FAFSA.  Just because you do not qualify for the TSAA grant does NOT mean you aren't getting any financial aid. Check your financial aid award letter from the colleges to see what aid you will be receiving.
