        Stoner Creek 2016-2017

        Teacher of the Year

Socrates once said, “Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.” I take that quote to heart every morning as I unlock my door and flip on the lights in my classroom. My passion for igniting the love of learning in students’ hearts and minds will always be evident in my classroom. Now in my 13th year, I have had the opportunity to teach many grades including Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 4th. I have been teaching 4th grade math for the last 6 years. I am proud to say that all of my 13 years have been at SCE.

In addition to classroom teaching, I have been a part of organizations and groups at Stoner Creek Elementary to encourage teachers and staff; some of which include the role of Technology Coach, 2nd and 4th grade Team Leader, Leader of Common Core Trainings, mentor to new teammates, and Math Leadership Statewide Trainings. I’ve worked with students by offering after-school tutoring, and hosting a TCAP “Bootcamp” for 4th graders to build confidence, practice skills, and prepare for state testing. I also serve on the drama team at Stoner Creek.

I am no stranger to Wilson County Schools. I proudly attended Stoner Creek Elementary, where I first decided that I wanted to be a teacher, and Mt. Juliet High School before receiving my Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Tennessee State University. I still reside in Wilson County with my husband and two children, where they attend Wilson County Schools.
