Teacher of the Year 2017-2018

Mrs. Jada Dixon is our teacher of the year. Learn more about her from the interview below.

Where did you go to school?

I obtained my Bachelor’s degree within Biological science from Western Governor’s University, TN.  I am currently attending graduate school at Clemson University. I plan to graduate August 10th, 2018 with a Master’s within biological science.

Where did you teach before coming to M.A.P. and for how long?

I previously worked at Macon County High School where I taught Algebra for three years.

What do you love most about teaching?

The kids are the only reason I am here! Leon Megginson paraphrased Darwin’s Origin of Species as, “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but rather the one most responsive to change”.  I seek to encourage all students that they hold the power to change their circumstances through education and learning.

What do you think makes a successful teacher?

Behind all the cognitive strategies used and curriculum standards covered, perhaps the most effective strategy of successful teachers is that of building rapport. Building rapport is more than a rehearsed smile and recalling first names. It involves sharing and relating to one another’s personal journeys-meeting them where they are today.
