The 4-point plan to Eliminate the Academic Achievement Gap

In 2003, the Wichita Branch NAACP held a series of community forums dealing with education and the academic achievement gap. Through this effort, we developed a number of enduring partnerships with other community based organizations focused on improving the educational outcomes of African American children.

That same year, the Wichita Branch NAACP along with WABSE (the Wichita Alliance of Black School Educators), and the African American Council of Elders committed to working together to develop a strategy to eliminate the Acievement Gap. The three organizations, collectively known as the Community Advisory Committee, met monthly for two years to develop what is now known as the 4-point plan.

The 4-point plan was presented to USD259 in February of 2004 and was adopted by the school board. An implementation team was then assembled to incorporate the plan into the district.

~~~~~~
On August 10th, 2007 the newly revised 4-point plan was presented to the Kansas State Education Commissioner. We've offered the plan to the State as a template that could be used and shared with School Districts throughout the State of Kansas.
~~~~~~

The 4-point plan is posted here for public use. Any branches of the NAACP or other education focused community organizations should feel to adopt or modify the plan for use in your respective communities.
