Middle School Language Arts

Welcome to my class page!

The 2018-2019 school year will mark my eighth year teaching. I have previously taught in grades 4-8 and every subject at one time or another, however I am very thrilled to have settled into the middle school LA content area. I grew up in Columbus, and returned back to the area after graduating from Concordia University Wisconsin. Go CUW! I completed my Master's degree in Curriculum & Instruction: Adaptive Education in 2015. My husband, Brien, and I have two dogs and a few "barn" cats. We love traveling, watching football, and I enjoy watching him coach the Columbus Icemen High School team.

This year each grade will read a variety of novels from different genres. Sixth graders will continue to build on reading strategies, while the seventh and eighth graders take a deeper look into literary elements. Students will strengthen their spelling skills and vocabulary. Each student will also complete a variety of writing pieces, while using the four steps in the writing process. Some writing will be structured and other pieces will be creative writing. Seventh and Eighth graders will also complete larger research papers. The eighth graders will also be completing #bookaday as a class, where we will read 180 books in the school year together. A lot of learning will take place!
