Bio:

I grew up in Macon but moved away after high school to attend college in Indiana. I then taught high school art in the Bronx, New York and then I taught all subjects at an elementary school in the San Diego, California area before coming back to Georgia to earn a Masters in Fine Arts at the Savannah College of Art and Design. I then taught art in an elementary school in Meriwether County (Warm Springs, Georgia area) for two years before coming to White County.

I wanted to move here because of the excellence in the school system. I have six children, five of whom all attend White County public schools. My wife and I have been very pleased with the quality of education our kids are receiving here.

I've taught in enough places to know that the students here are more respectful and willing to work than in most other places. I've found parents here to be more involved in their children's education than I've ever encountered before. I'm honored to be able to work here.

Many people don't realize how important art is in an education. When you create an artwork, it's more than just making something pretty to look at. You are starting with a blank slate and creating something that did not exist before that moment. You have to overcome many new obstacles during planning and executing the piece. This is the same type of situation you find in most careers. There are always new problems or opportunities arising in any job on a daily basis. You have to address it in a new way, planning and executing the solution. I try to instill in my students the lifelong skills of taking on a new challenge and trying their best. They may have to make changes along the way, but only in perseverance can they find success. All in all, I'm very pleased with the level of production my students are able to achieve. And, after learning life skills, they do end up with something pretty to look at.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
