Ms. Anissa Carney
4th Grade Teacher
I am a 1990 Honor Graduate of White County High School. I received a scholarship to attend Piedmont College and completed coursework in December 1993 to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education. After graduation, I passed the Teacher Certification Test to earn a teaching certificate in the state of Georgia, which enables me to teach grades PreK-5. I wanted nothing more for my teaching career than to return to the school system I always loved to attend.
In the fall of 1993, I began my student teaching at White County Elementary School with Mrs. Joan Curtis, one of my former teachers. The following year I was blessed with my own classroom and I have worked in the White County School System ever since. After my initial teacher certification, I completed coursework to earn the Gifted Endorsement and the Teacher Support Specialist Endorsement. In May of 2009, I earned my Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from North Georgia College and State University. With this degree, I also added the ESOL Endorsement to my teaching certificate.
I have been employed by the White County Board of Education since November 1993, when I was hired as a paraprofessional while completing my college coursework. I then began my first teaching position the following fall. Over the years, I have taught 3rd grade, with the exception of one year that I looped up with my 3rd graders and taught them 4th grade. I will be a fourth grade teacher for 2016-2017 at the newly formed Tesnatee Gap Elementary School.
I am a lifelong resident of White County and could think of nowhere else I'd rather be. I am married to Richie Carney and together we have a son, Rance, born in 1999 and identified with high-functioning autism at 11. Raising awareness and understanding for children on the autism spectrum is a passion I've developed in watching him struggle academically, socially, and behaviorally. Our other son, Jacob, has a family of his own, blessing us with the addition of his wife, Courtney, and son, Noah. Our family wouldn't be complete without our dachshund, Ranger, and Rance's constant companion, his golden retriever, Berkeley. We live in Cleveland. From the time I was a little girl, I discovered my creative side as I learned to quilt and sew with my precious grandmother so I continue to enjoy all types of creative outlets. My friends say I'm the "Power Behind the Presents" because I love to shop and find great deals for myself and others. When I'm not trolling the clearance racks and thrift shops, I'm spending time with my family visiting new places and experiencing things together.
