Citizen Committee being formed for Cherry Point Aquatic Reserve

Post date: Jul 5, 2012 7:08:30 PM

You are invited! A new Citizen Committee is being created to help steward and protect the Cherry Point Aquatic Reserve. Located on the western shores of Whatcom County, this reserve is a unique and complex aquatic ecosystem that provides habitat for Pacific Herring, salmon, Dungeness crab, and a variety of marine mammals. The reserve is also adjacent a shoreline which provides habitat for a variety of migratory and residential birds, including over 300 nesting great blue heron mating pairs. As a member of this committee you will work with other community members to create an effective work plan that aims to help implement the management plan created for the site by Washington State’s Department of Natural Resources. These actions will include planning and performing citizen science projects to fill in data gaps, looking at policies surrounding the protection of the reserve, and planning education and outreach events to inform the greater community about the reserve. No experience necessary! It will be fun and interesting.
