Preschool Health Office

" You cannot educate a child who is not healthy and you cannot keep a child healthy who is not educated."

Jocelyn Elders, Former Surgeon General

The preschool nurse will provide monitoring and assistance to students with health concerns so that all students can achieve and participate fully in school activities. A record is kept of all visits to the health room and parents will be notified of any possible health condition that may be developing.

Please make sure your child has breakfast every morning before coming to school. Statistics show that only one in five children comes to school after having a nutritionally adequate breakfast. If a child has no breakfast, he/she may be without food for a 15-17 hour period. We all know that the body and brain cannot function at top capacity without necessary nutrients.

In addition, many of those children have a mid-morning "slump", accompanied by a headache or stomach ache, causing them to spend valuable class time in the Nurse's Office. If they are not in class, they are not getting important information.

The American Dietetic Association and the John Hopkins School of Health agree that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

Please make sure that your children eat breakfast every morning!!
