1D Aceleration: The 1500-ft Hole

Answer key is available by email: gschwanbeck@westwood.k12.ma.us

1) Is the video’s claim that the hole is 1500 feet deep accurate? Determine how deep the hole is.

2) How fast is the rock moving when it hits the bottom of the hole?

3) Imagine you travel to the hole in person and find the true depth using a measuring tape. Will this true depth be greater than, less than, or pretty close to the depth you determined in question 1? Why?

4) Following up on question 3, do you think that the true speed the rock you calculated in question 2 is greater than, less than, or pretty close to the depth you determined in question 1? Why?
