Bulldogs Down Panthers, 4-1

Led by two Bubba McNeice goals and some stellar play by defenseman Matt Casamento, the Canton High School Bulldogs defeated the rival Franklin Panthers by a score of 4-1 in front of a home crowd on Senior Night.

The Panthers would set the tone in the first period, carrying the play and generating multiple good scoring chances on Bulldogs goalie Quinn Gibbs. However, as has been the case all season, Gibbs stepped up when his teammates needed him, turning aside all Franklin shots. The Bulldogs would get going later in the period, and a late Franklin penalty in the closing minute would lead to the first Canton goal to start the second period. Less than twenty seconds into the frame, Timmy Kelleher would find Johnny Hagan in the middle of the ice, and Hagan would do the rest, making a nice move to beat a Franklin defender and the Panthers goalie for the 1-0 lead.

Five minutes later, Franklin would get a powerplay goal of their own to tie the score at one. However, Kelleher would make another big play late in the second period, stuffing home a loose puck under the Franklin goalie to regain the lead. In the final 15 minutes, Canton picked up their play even more, generating several quality goal scoring chances before McNeice would finally extend the lead to two goals on a breakaway with 4:30 to play. Facing a 6-on-5 disadvantage at the end of the game, McNeice would seal the 4-1  victory with an empty net goal.

The win brings the Bulldogs record to 11-1-4 and 8-0 in the Hockomock League. Canton will travel to Warrior Ice Arena on Saturday night to face Oliver Ames in a non-league matchup before turning around and playing Foxboro on Monday evening.
