Meet Mrs. R

I was born in Maine and moved to California as a  child.  I grew up and attended high school in Northern California.  After high school I  started college at University of California at Sacramento.  While in college I was invited to visit some friends in Whitefish, Montana to ski.  I had never heard of Whitefish, but I was raised on skis in Lake Tahoe, so I was thrilled to ski a new mountain. The visit turned permanent and I never returned to California.
After a couple of years of skiing, I decided to finish my education and went full circle back to my place of birth and finished college at University of Maine at Orono. Although Maine is a beautiful place, I knew Montana was where I wanted to be, so I completed my student teaching in Whitefish with hopes of finding a teaching job after college.
My first teaching job was a K/1 teacher in Big Sky, Montana.  For three years, I lived and skied in Big Sky.  Although I enjoyed the mountains and rivers of the Gallatin Valley, the Flathead Valley was calling, so my family and I moved back and I started teaching at West Valley as a 3rd-6th Title/ 7th-8th computers teacher.  I have been at West Valley for 15 years.
When I’m not teaching I enjoy various outdoor activities and time with my two boys, ages 13 and 16, and our yellow lab, Ty.  In the summer we like to mountain bike, hike, and play in many of the lakes and rivers of Montana.  Winter is time for alpine, back country, and cross country skiing, and sledding. I look forward to sharing some of these activities with 6th graders!
