Term 1, Week 9, 2017

Talofa lava, Kia orana, Taloha ni, Ni sa bula vinaka, Fakaalofa lahi atu, Talofa, Malo e lelei, Tena koutou, Tena koutou, Tena koutou katoa, hello and welcome to our weekly news blog...

Message from the Principal

The air has been smelling sweet this week at school with multiple baking sessions taking place in the staffroom, all in preparation for the big Cupcake and Muffin sale this morning.  Junior Classes Kowhai, Kauri, Tuatara and Tauhou have been leading the way to raise money for our Kiwi Bird raising funds to help protect our Kiwi Bird who are under drastic threat from stoats, ferrets, weasels, cats and dogs.

This was a fantastic effort from everyone - children, staff and parents.

(Please see below for more information and photos)

Youth Town has been back at school this week with Sports Activator, delighting the children with new found sporting skills and developing their confidence.

Thanks Youth Town!!

Staff would like to thank parents, family and whanau for supporting us with the changes of how children leave the school - through the main entrance. Teachers have reported that children are leaving more promptly and buses are getting away slightly earlier. We have had police officers down at the gate recently, as well as Elton Crane, the Waitaki District Council road safety

co-ordinator, and they are satisfied that we have great procedures in place to keep our children safe.

It was agreed that the car park area could be a potential hazard so please remember if your child is in Years 0-3, you must collect them at the school crossing.

Children should also be wearing shoes to cross the road.

The council will repaint the yellow lines down by the crossing to reinforce that parking is not permitted in this area. Thank you to Elton Crane for organising this.

The Bible in Schools Programme begins in Term 2 and runs until the end of Term 3. This is held on Tuesdays from 1.30-2pm. You are welcome to view the Bible in Schools Curriculum (Programme) at our school office.

If you prefer your child not to attend Bible in Schools, please email: or send a letter with your signature to school before the start of Term 2 please

Please check your child’s bag for School Donation Invoices on Monday. These are voluntary but make a huge difference to the learning opportunities we can offer your children.

It is difficult to believe that the term is nearing an end. There has been a bit of sickness around lately, so please help us by keeping your child at home if they are unwell.

Our next Assembly will be on 7th April - we would love to see you there.

Have a safe and happy weekend with your families.

What's been happening at Weston School

Otago Primary School Swimming Sports -

The Otago Primary School Swimming Sports were held on Sat the 25th of March at the Moana Pool in Dunedin.  Weston has performed very well.  Jen Fellowes who helped manage the Weston team was most impressed with the standard of swimming and fantastic behaviour of the team throughout the event.  Everyone performed to the best of their ability and there were some good results which have been attached. The finals are certainly hard to get into with the numbers competing so well done Lloyd, Jesse and Samuel who achieved this. Also, a great effort from the relay teams – fantastic swimming.

A particular mention was made of Sophie Spittle who was unwell and scratched from her events but swam for the relay team as there were no available reserves. That shows great team spirit and Jen was immensely impressed and appreciative of her commitment.

Many thanks to Jen and Kim and the team of parents who gave these children the opportunity to swim at this level. It’s such a great opportunity and one that we are lucky Weston supports.

Please find attached the results from the weekend.

Kind regards

Leigh Petie
