Message from the Acting Principal
The recent snow was such a highlight last week!
Great to see the wonderment and awe on children’s faces as the snow fell!
Our Year 7&8 students have had tech at OIS this week. This is a 4 day programme which happens each term, where students learn new skills in Art, Textiles, Electronics Hard Materials and Food.
Year 6 students and parent helpers had fantastic experiences at ‘Clued Up’ Kids. The organisations involved in this collaborative and interactive approach was designed to develop aspects of well being and concepts of agency, sense of belonging, acceptance and potential for success. There were a variety of hands on, exciting stations presented by Clutha Council, Farm Safety, KiwiRail, NZ Fire Service, NZ Police, Relax Kids, St John, Sport Clutha, Surf Life Saving and Public Health South.
Thank you to Mrs Mortimer and parent helpers who organised and assisted students.
(See photos below)
We have had calendar art orders flooding in so thank you for supporting this venture. We are sure you will be delighted with your goodies when they arrive.
There has been a lot of excitement surrounding the cross country today. It’s great to see the children wearing their house colours with pride. There has been noticeable perseverance, determination and commitment from students throughout their training for this event. Great to see parents, family and whanau out supporting children too.
Thank you to Mrs Boys and our teachers for the organisation of this event.
The Board of Trustees met this week with a focus on Student Achievement. We are very proud to tell you that we have great learning progress and achievement at Weston School. As of the end of Term 2, our learning across the school looks like this:
Our Board is focused on student achievement and support the teachers who have successful classroom programmes operating at all levels. We will continue to strive to meet the learning needs of all students at Weston School.
You'll no doubt be aware already -there is a nasty strain of viral Gastroenteritis going through Weston school and Oamaru at the moment.
Anyone with vomiting or diarrhoea should not be returning to school until at least 48 hours have passed since the last vomiting or diarrhoea episode to avoid contagious spread - not to return the next day which we know often happens.
Any viral gastroenteritis has potential to be life-threatening for people with underlying chronic illnesses and can make any person seriously unwell, whatever their underlying health status.
You will notice that we are closing our school gates during school time. This is in the interests of child safety - please can you assist us by always closing the gates when you enter or leave Weston School.
Thank you for your co-operation,
Stay warm, happy and healthy.
WELCOME to Weston School

Calling all old Mobile Phones to help Sustainable Coastlines look after NZ’s coastlines and waterways.
After $2.5 million donated to the Starship Foundation from the sale of unwanted old mobile phones it is time for a new multi award winning NZ charity - Sustainable Coastline to benefit from this scheme. It would be great if you could rummage around in your drawers and toy boxes and bring into School any unwanted mobile phones you may have. Phones collected help our School gain valuable rewards and also the environment benefits by keeping our landfills free of mobile phones and their array of hazardous toxic substances. Please drop any unwanted mobile phones you may have in the collection box in the reception area at School.
