Talofa lava, Kia orana, Taloha ni, Ni sa bula vinaka, Fakaalofa lahi atu, Talofa, Malo e lelei, Tena koutou, Tena koutou, Tena koutou katoa, hello and welcome to our weekly news blog...
Message from the Acting Principal
A very warm welcome back to school for Term 3.
This term is slightly shorter, just 9 weeks but there are a lot of exciting learning opportunities ahead.
Children are working hard on their fitness for the upcoming Cross Country on Friday 12th August (Postponement day Wednesday 17th August). We would love to see you come along and cheer the children on for this event.
Our Year 7 & 8 students have tech from the 8th August as well as a camp to look forward to early in September. Our Year 6 students are off to the Rec Centre on 10th August for ‘Waitaki Clued Up Kids.’ This programme is based around the children becoming more aware of personal safety, learning how to react in dangerous situations, knowing what roles emergency services play, fostering good citizenship, making a contribution to crime prevention and avoiding being the victims of crime.
Our Junior children are learning within a variety of contexts across the classes, including Bees, the Olympics and the Solar System, careers, making money and financial literacy.
Calendar Art is underway across the school so make sure you look out for your child’s picture and order forms at the end of next week.
Miss Bing, our Mandarin Teacher finished at the end of last term but we are delighted to have Alice and Cynthia joining us this term to continue teaching this language.
We also welcome Ms Plunket to Kowhai class, she replaces Mrs Matheson (who is expecting another addition her to her family early next month) and she will be teaching each Friday.
Mrs Ruddenklau has returned to Weston School after an extensive overseas trip last term. We are looking forward to hearing more about her exciting adventures. With the Kids for Kids concert ahead, Mrs Mortimer is very happy to have her back on board.
Unfortunately there is a lot of sickness around at the moment. Stomach bugs, coughs and colds so if your child is unwell, please keep them home to avoid the germs spreading. Those nasty head lice are also around so please be vigilant at checking your child’s hair.
Here’s to a happy, healthy and exciting term ahead!

Calling all old Mobile Phones to help Sustainable Coastlines look after NZ’s coastlines and waterways.
After $2.5 million donated to the Starship Foundation from the sale of unwanted old mobile phones it is time for a new multi award winning NZ charity - Sustainable Coastline to benefit from this scheme. It would be great if you could rummage around in your drawers and toy boxes and bring into School any unwanted mobile phones you may have. Phones collected help our School gain valuable rewards and also the environment benefits by keeping our landfills free of mobile phones and their array of hazardous toxic substances. Please drop any unwanted mobile phones you may have in the collection box in the reception area at School.
