School Parent Teacher Interviews

You will have received information with your child/rens school reports regarding interviews.  To book all you need to do is go to, use the event code cem8k and follow the instructions on screen.  We hope you are able to make a time with your child/rens teacher so that the teachers can discuss your child/rens learning.

New Board Meeting

We have a Board Meeting with our new Board next week which will be all about Effective Governance of Schools.  We welcome our new Board Members.

There is lots and lots of MUD around the playground at the moment!  Children are required to take their shoes off before coming into classrooms please. We apologise for the muddy clothes coming home!  Thank you!

Ronald McDonald Road Safety Programme

Next week the juniors will be taking part in the Ronald McDonald Road Safety Programme.  It is a show based on Road Safety for Junior School students.

Camp and Cricket Fundraisers

We appreciate the support people have shown for the fundraising projects for camp and cricket.  It seems like there is a lot going on, however they are for good causes and your support is much appreciated.  The fundraising so far has been very successful.

Medications for students

We would just like to remind parents that if your child is on any type of medication including panadol tablets they must be brought to school by the parent/caregiver so that the medicines can be signed in by a staff member and a medication administration form can be completed.  Thank you.

Social Media

Reminder from our last Westies News - If parents are interested in having more information on social media and keeping children safe please email me and I will arrange a speaker to help navigate these waters!

What’s been happening

Rippa Rugby

Well done to the Year 5/6 Rippa Rugby Team who represented North Otago Schools at the Hannan Shield District competition at Centennial Park last Thursday.  They handled the wet conditions admirably.  Thanks to the coaches, Tim Petrie, Martini Kira and Ian Cope, also to the supporters who braved the elements.

Stir fry for Tuatara class

Tuatara Class have been harvesting winter vegetables from the school garden.  We bought the seedlings in February, using the money from the garlic we sold to the school community.  Now we have cut, washed, chopped and cooked up the cabbage, broccoli, celery, carrots, silver beet and kale into delicious stir-fry.  Thanks again to our wonderful Linda Wilson for her help in the garden.

Head Lice.png

There has been another outbreak of head lice SCHOOL WIDE.  So that we can stop this cycle, we ask that you PLEASE CHECK YOUR CHILD/CHILDREN’S HAIR EVERY NIGHT.  Your chemist is a great source of information and has many products available to combat the problem.

In the meantime we strongly advise that girls tie back their hair to prevent further spreading of lice.   Our Public Health Nurse Nikki McMillan is able to offer support should you need, her contact number is 027 223 8468.

Information leaflets are also available at the School Office.

After $2.5 million donated to the Starship Foundation from the sale of unwanted old mobile phones it is time for a new multi award winning NZ charity - Sustainable Coastline to benefit from this scheme.  It would be great if you could rummage around in your drawers and toy boxes and bring into School any unwanted mobile phones you may have.  Phones collected help our School gain valuable rewards and also the environment benefits by keeping our landfills free of mobile phones and their array of hazardous toxic substances.  Please drop any unwanted mobile phones you may have in the collection box in the reception area at School.
