Helping to create a more respectful community!
I know that many of you will agree with me that manners are everything. We are currently focused on using good manners and speaking respectfully to adults, visitors and of course children. In week 7 starting 13th June we are going to have a manners blitz including practising looking at the person you are talking to, finishing sentences while standing still, using more words to answer back other than yeah or nah as well as being an attentive listener. As some classes are focused on speech making this is very appropriate. We are hoping to push for common sense and good practice as well as have some fun activities. We hope that we can work together with you at home to have some very well mannered Weston Kids!
As you will know more and more schools have gone into a lockdown situation over the past couple of years. As a part of our Health and Safety Procedures we would like to have a practice one. We have recently had the NZ Police in to go over guidelines and processes with the teachers. This has been shared with the board and we have more sharing to do with all of our staff. We would like to have a practice at the end of this term or early next term so that should this situation ever arise our children know what to do and so are not frightened.. Therefore before we introduce this to our children we need to share what this will mean if one ever does happen to our community and you as parents. If we are all informed we can make this an uneventful experience rather like a fire drill or earthquake drill. I am hopeful that as many of you as possible can make this sharing of information evening.

Change in Weather
Gosh winter has hit us with a rush. Please make sure that all items of clothing are named as students take off polar fleeces and jackets when they are in the warmer classrooms! Otherwise it can be really hard to return items to their rightful owners.

Farm visit - Tuatara Class
'What fantastic learning experiences for us all: climbing an extinct volcano (Taipo Hill), watching the harvester working, finding out how wheat gets sown, seeing the tractor at work feeding out to the sheep. A big thank you to Geoff and Rebecca Mavor for a wonderful winter visit!
Thanks LJ Hooker!
Stephen Robertson from LJ Hooker donated $120.00 to the school. He plans to donate a percentage of all sales in the Weston area quarterly as his way of giving back to the community. Sheryl Heta presented Nicky with the cheque. Thanks Stephen and the team from LJ Hooker!
