I thought as a follow up to last weeks posting about being cyber-smart I would give those of you that have younger children a link to CORE education's blog about preschoolers and ipad/tablet use:

The general thrust of this blog posting is that we as parents need to be monitoring ICT tools and resources as much as we do bike safety, watching tv and deciding what toys are appropriate for your family and children. Use of ICT is pretty much a values based decision for our families at the moment. Some of us find this a seamless approach to life and others find it an intrusion. Generally speaking though it is a journey for all of us and we are being challenged with how we take this on board this rapid change and ponder where does this all fit into our family life.

I really hope that some of our families have been alerted to social network usage by your children and this has allowed for some good conversations. I have been in touch with some agencies and would like to encourage you to go to WGHS Hall at 7.30 pm for the Netsafe Meeting 20th August with Lee Chisholm. I always think that having the knowledge and information to make informed decisions gives you the opportunity to make choices with confidence! As we get more information we will send this your way. I have some CDs from netsafe that I am planning to show in term three as a part of the Keeping Ourselves Safe unit of work.
