A Wildly Important Goal

We have one WIG for the year, that is, our wildly important goal. We have many goals along the way but this is our WILDLY important goal -

We are skillful thinkers.

So why is this wildly important?

It is important to be able to teach the necessary skills needed for 21st Century Learners. With technology so readily accessible now, children and teachers are ubiquitous learners – learning anywhere, any time.  Thinking skillfully about this 'knowledge' is more likely to equip children for their futures.  With new technologies evolving so quickly, their future jobs may not have even been invented yet!  Having the ability to analyse, visualise, summarise, compare, connect and interpret information are the types of ‘thinking tools’ necessary for success.  In teaching these skills, we are honouring our New Zealand Curriculum and acknowledging that there has been a paradigm shift in Education and we welcome this challenge.

The WIG will permeate every piece of learning we do. The goal is simply to be a ‘skillful thinker,’ both as learners and teachers. Simple to say but complex to do.  It will be a wonderful journey and fits so well with our mission statement of 'Learning together, caring about our future’.
