"Learn as much by writing as by reading."

Lord Action

Welcome to English 12!

Reading and writing are the foundation of learning. In English 12, we will read, and we will write. If we do nothing else, then we have been successful.

William Godwin, an English writer of the late 1700s and early 1800s, once noted that "He that loves reading has everything within his reach." We could not agree more. To read widely and constantly is to access the consciousness of mankind, to delve into our existence in the most deep and expansive manner possible.

Further still, to write is to express each one's individual experience within the greater narrative of existence. Reading and writing are not trifles to be nonchalantly shrugged away. Reading and writing are the relentless pertinence, always relevant, always necessary.

Prepare to embark on a journey into the best of times and the worst of times, the fondest of joys and the fiercest of tragedies. Welcome to English 12!

  • Ready to go again? A curious fact: 2nd semester is 25% shorter than first semester for seniors... w00t! That's exciting... But we have things to do before we reach the end of May! 1. Some changes (improvements!) in the Choice Reading program (based largely on YOUR feedback). 2. Some really cool units of study coming your way... very cool. This week, we are going to drive our routine home, so don't miss the most important shift in perspective: by the time class starts, you must be in your seat and READING (if not, you are tardy). Who's up for giving that a try on Monday?
