DropBox Cloud Computing

Using DropBox To Save iPad Pages Documents In DOCX (Word) Format and To Share Those Documents or to submit them as assignments in Sakai

DropBox is a free cloud computing site. The free site provides users with 5GB of online storage. In addition, the site provides a free desktop application for the PC which creates a web folder on the user's desktop thereby providing a drag and drop option for adding items to the DropBox cloud site and a folder that the user can simply save items into from other PC applications. After the item is saved into the DropBox folder, the PC synchronizes with the cloud site thereby adding the item to the cloud.

DropBox also provides a free app for smartphones and tablets thereby making DropBox items available on portable electronic devices.

iPad users can use DropBox to save Pages documents in DOCX (Microsoft Word) format. Dropbox will provide a hyperlink that can be used for sharing those documents. The link can be pasted into the text box on the assignment tool in Sakai thereby giving iPad users an option for submitting Microsoft Word documents in response to assignments in Sakai.

The PowerPoint below provides detailed visual instructions for setting up a free DropBox account, uploading a Pages document to it in Word (DOCX) format, and then obtaining a link that can be used to submit the document in Sakai.
