About the Coordinator

The 2019-2020 school year will mark Alison Schneider's 18th year in education.  She holds a  Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Texas Christian University and a Masters in Education with a specialization in Teacher Leadership and Gifted and Talented Education.  Ms. Schneider joined the Westlake Academy staff when the school opened in 2003, teaching both first and third grades.  After nine years as a classroom teacher, she became the PYP Coordinator in 2011.  In this role, Ms. Schneider serves as a pedagogical leader for the primary staff, overseeing the International Baccalaureate Standards and Practices.  She is passionate about inquiry and concept-based learning and appreciates how the IB Learner Profile, along with the Approaches to Learning, foster the holistic development of every student.  Ms. Schneider is also an IB Educator serving the Americas region.  This voluntary role provides her with opportunities to visit other PYP schools to conduct verification and evaluation visits, while also leading IB professional development workshops.  She also participates in consultant roles for IB Global Services.
