Registration and Age Groups

Who is eligible to participate in Westford Flag Football?

Westford Flag Football is a co-ed league. Any player between the ages of 5 to 14 is eligible to participate.

Do I need to be a Westford resident to register my child to play?

You do not need to be a Westford resident.  We welcome all players who plan to participate on a regular basis.  So, as long as the player can attend games and practices from mid-August to the first week of November, he/she can register.

Is my child required to play within their grade?

Westford Flag Football leagues are divided by age groups and not by school grade.  Your player will be placed into the appropriate division during the registration process based on the player's birthday.

Is my child required to play within their age group?

Westford Flag Football leagues are assigned by age group.Your player will be placed into the appropriate division during the registration process based on the player's birthday.  This allocation is separate from school grade.  Players are required to play within their age group regardless of their school grade.

What is the cost?

The registration fee for age groups 9-11 and 11-14 is $90.  If you register before May 31, there is a $10 early registration discount.

The registration fee for age groups 5-6 and 7-8 is $70.  If you register before May 31, there is a $10 early registration discount.

How do I register?

You may register with Westford Flag Football on our website www.westfordflag.com. Registration starts on May 1 and closes on June 15 or earlier if all spots are filled. Registrations after June 15 may be placed on a wait list.

May I register late?

You may register after the registration is closed and your player will be placed on the wait list.  You will be notified if your player clears and is assigned to a team. You will not be charged until your player has cleared the wait list.

The registration system selected the wrong grade for my player

The school grade is automatically selected by the registration system, but is not used for player team allocation. Westford Flag Football uses a players birth date to establish which division a player is eligible for. There is no need to adjust the registration for your player if the system selects an incorrect school grade.

My child has played flag football in the past. Does he or she need to attend the evaluations?

Yes.  All players are expected to participate in the evaluations to ensure balanced teams.

How do I register to be a teen referee?

To register as a teen referee, please use the Westford Flag Football registration system (click HERE to go to the site).  Once there, scroll to the bottom of the page and select "Teen Referee."

DROPS AND REFUNDS

What is the league's refund policy?
A full refund of the registration fee will be provided to withdrawing players prior to the close of registration. After registration is closed, a refund (minus $20 processing fee) will be granted based on availability of wait listed players to fill the position. If the player withdrawal causes an incomplete roster, no refund will be provided

GAMES AND PRACTICES

When and where are games played and how long are they?
Games for 9-11 and 12-14 age groups are played on Saturdays and are approximately 1 (one) hour long. Occasionally, the league will schedule a double-header and your player's team will lay two one-hour games on a given Saturday. Games will start in the beginning of September.  The season ends by first week of November.

Games for 5-6 and 7-8 age groups are played on Monday evenings and are approximately 1 (one) hour long. For these age groups, practice and games are combined.
Will my games always be at the same time?
No. Scheduled games for your player's team will be played at varying times during the day on Saturday. Typically, the first game of the day starts at 9am and the last game of the day starts at 4pm.

When are practices and how long are they?
Practices for 9-11 and 12-14 age groups will be scheduled for one day a week, Tuesday through Friday (no Monday practice). Each practice is scheduled for one hour. Practices will start after middle of August.

Practices for 5-6 and 7-8 are combined with the games on Monday evenings.
May I request specific practice nights?
We do not allow selection of specific practice nights, but your player's coaches will try to accommodate practice night preferences as best as possible.
When will I know when my player will have practice?
Once your player is assigned to a team and you are contacted by your coach, you will be informed of the practice schedule. This is usually in mid-August.
My player is also in other sports. Will this make my player ineligible?
This does not automatically make your player ineligible. However, once your player makes the selection to play Flag Football, the teams are balanced including your player. Players are expected to attend all practices and games.
