Restore Drive restored by Disk Utility

NOTE: Each device can have different EFI and support software.  For instance, Mid 2013 13in MacBook Air has very different EFI Software than the 11in Mid 2013 MBA.  As a result, if you restore even the RESTORE DRIVE from a DMG created on a different device, it is possible to get a Circle/Slash error on boot.  The Mid 2013 13in MBA restore Drive from MLTI WILL run on the Mid 2009 MacBooks Running OSX 10.8.4 or later.

Close Disk Utility if it is open.

Open Terminal

Enter the command below

defaults write com.apple.DiskUtility DUDebugMenuEnabled -bool true

Now open Disk Utility and pull down the Debug menu

Click "Show Every Partition"

Now, select the Recovery Partition and hit the botton "New Image".

NOTES: Be sure to set the "Image Format" pull down menu to "read-only"

Make a note of where the dmg will be saved.

Copy the Recover HD.DMG image to a flash drive

NOTES: The following must be on an Administrator account

Next, Log on to the admin account of the computer you wish to restore the MLTI Recovery Partition.

Copy the Recovery HD.DMG from your Flash drive to the HD

Open Disk Utility

Pull down the "Images" Menu

Select "Scan Image for Restore"

Select your .dmg (You will need to look in the location you copied to for instance "Desktop".) and hit "Scan" button

You may need to enter the admin password

Once the scan is complete, in disk utility, highlight the DMG Image you want to restore and click on the restore tab.

The DMG should be in the field labeled "Source".  If not, then drag the DMG file and drop it into the "Source" field.

Drag the partition you want to restore the DMG to into the "Destination" field and press the "Restore" button

Again, you may need the admin password.

After the restore process is complete, close out of Disk Utility.

Open Terminal and input the command below.

    diskutil list

Note the identifier for the newly restored partition.  Example: /dev/disk0s3  (THIS IS THE IDENTIFIER I HAVE FOUND IN GENERAL)

Now, enter the command below

sudo asr adjust --target /dev/disk0s3 --settype "Apple_Boot"

You will need the admin password

Restart.

Don't forget to enter the following terminal command into the machine you took the Recovery HD image from.

defaults write com.apple.DiskUtility DUDebugMenuEnabled -bool false
