First Composting Meeting of the Semester!

posted Sep 20, 2011, 6:02 PM by Corey W Guilmette

You know that pasta you didn't finish the other night at Usdan? It gets trucked away to  an incinerator along with all of the other garbage.

Come this Wednesday night at 10 pm to Earth House (on the corner of high and lawn) to the first Composting Committee Meeting of the fall to help change that! We will be continuing our work toward the implementation of a composting system in Usdan and other dining halls on campus. Also, we will be building upon our successful student-run composting system, allowing over 800 students to compost the food waste from their apartments and houses.

Where: Earth House (corner of high and lawn)

When: Wednesday @ 10 pm

Why? Composting is sexy!

Composting is Back for the Spring!!!

As the sun returns for the Spring and the air begins to warm, that also means that composting is back! You can now begin emptying your composting bucket into the composting machines. In under a month of operation, thanks to you, we were able to compost almost 300 gallons of food waste!

Unfortunately, do to heavy ice and snow, we had two composting machines break this winter. Please don't try to use (because it won't work) the composting machine between Fountain Ave and Pine St. and the machine next to Hewitt. You can find a map of the composting machines here. Fortunately, we have replacements coming soon, along with a new machine that will be next to the Bayit! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to email wesleyancompost@gmail.com.

New Composting Machine Outside Hewitt

posted Dec 7, 2010, 2:04 PM by Corey W Guilmette

There is now a new composting machine outside Hewitt. Unfortunately, the composting machine that we intended to put outside the Bayit, cannot be fixed. However, we are looking to add composting machines next semester. The Bayit will be our first expansion point and other points will be determined based on demand.

So far we have distributed buckets to 170 residences! This means that around 950 people can now compost!

There will be composting training sessions at 8-8:30 pm in Usdan 110 on Wednesday, November 10th and Thursday, November 11th. Delicous homemade Apple Crisp will be served. If you live in a woodframe, program house, hi/lo-rise, senior fauver or an apartment, come and learn about the new composting system. We will have a 5-gallon bucket for you at the meeting, the only thing you need to compost!
