Reading For January the children will continue to work on letters and sounds, reading CVC words, and learn sight words. All letters and sounds she be almost mastered. We have been doing many games and learning activities in small and large groups that focus on all letters and sounds of the alphabet. Some of the most difficult that could be practiced more are Ee, Uu, Yy. We will, however, focus on these letters more comprehensively later on. Children will continue to blend CVC words with short o and short e : pet, dog, cob etc. Sight words for this month are: you, look, what, two, one, see, Remember to really work with your children with these as there will be 57 total this year. We will also be focusing on comprehension of stories. We will focus on characters, title, author, generating and answering questions, and we will learn to compare characters' actions within a story and ask questions about unknown words. We will also be continuing on focusing on word part sounds and word families with CVC words short o.  ongoing until mastered 
Writing Children are becoming familiar with writing sentences. We will continue practice with a variety of methods. We will work on detail in our writing, do class writing projects, learn about question marks and exclamations points We will also start learning that we can use words like first, next, then, and last to tell about an experience through writing. It might be a good idea to continue to point out writing in the environment. Help children see sentences in books and count the words, find the period and the upper-case at the beginning. Help kids write a sentence per day: On a white board, fun paper, different writing mediums. Ongoing until mastered.
