Soar into Second Grade

Summer school opportunity!


Don’t miss this chance to give your child a “head start” on second grade!


                   Class dates: (Register includes BOTH weeks)

         July 16-July 19 (M-Th) and July 23-26 (M-Th) 8:00- Noon

                               Breakfast and lunch are included!


Children will then spend time engaged in reading and literacy activities with a focus on reviewing sight words and first grade phonic skills. Math center time and instruction will also be included, with the opportunity work with partners and play games that will build problem solving skills. This class is also a great opportunity for your child to make new friends and future classmates!

Fee information:

·         $50.00 payable to Lookout Mountain. Classroom fee is tax deductible. Tax credit form is attached. Please be sure to fill out the tax credit form as well as the registration form!

Zoofari Luncheon

Student Council will be sponsoring their annual Zoofari Luncheon on Thursday, May 10 during the modified lunch schedule shown below.

· Students will pay for lunch through their regular lunch account using their student ID number.

· Parents are invited to attend lunch with their students for this special event.  Parent lunches will be available for $3.50 each.  Sibling lunches will cost $3.25. Cash only with exact change, please.

· Wristbands can be purchased for $3.00 and will cover unlimited games with prizes.

· Other Zoofari toys and goodies can be purchased at the event as well.  Prices will range from $0.25-$3.00 each.

a. K-2 - 9-10 (except for Frick’s 1st Grade, they will run with 3 & 5 grades)

b. 3&5 – 10:15–11:15

c. 4&6 – 11:30-12:30 (These grades will be lunching together)

Lookout Mountain Elementary School will be administering the AzMERIT Test for grades 3 - 6 during April 2 - 10, 2018.  During the testing dates of April 2 - 10, 2018 there will be no classroom volunteers allowed on campus.  This includes all classrooms, grades K through 6.  We try to minimize any kind of interruption during our testing times and we are asking that you please not schedule appointments (dentist, doctor, etc.) on dates your child will be tested.

Kindergarten Field Week Parents will go directly to the field on Tuesday, April 10.  More information will follow from your student's teacher.

Be a Published Poet!



Send in your poem to be published in the 2018 Edition of Rhythms and Rhymes, a collection of poems written by Lookout Mountain students, grades K-6.


All work must be turned in to the Library by Friday, April 20th, 2018.

Artwork can also be included with the writing.


Students entering poems for this publication can also read their poems at Lookout’s Evening of the Arts on Tuesday, May 1st, 201 between 5:30pm-6:00pm or 6:30pm-7:00pm.


All poems must include a signed permission slip. 

This form must be completed and attached to your poem.

  1. All poems are due Friday, April 20th.  Students should turn in their poems to Mrs. Lee in the Library.
  2. Only one poem may be submitted per student.  Maximum 30 lines.
  3. All work must be original (not copied from another writer).
  4. Work can be handwritten or typed.
  5. Artwork can be included.  Black ink or pencil on white, unlined paper will reproduce the best.
  6. Poems may have been written at home or at school, even for a classroom assignment.
  7. The Rhythms and Rhymes booklets will be available on May 1st at Evening of the Arts.  Students whose poems are published will receive one free copy.
  8. Not all poems submitted will be accepted.  Poems might be revised and/or edited.
  9. All original writing and artwork will be returned.
  10. Each student whose poem is selected for publication can read his/her poem at Lookout’s Evening of the Arts on May 1st.

Family Reading Night

Celebrate “Read Across America” by Participating in a

Book Exchange!

February 26th-March 1st

Bring a gently used book from home to add to the book exchange.

Drop your book off in the boxes on the stage in the Cafeteria.

If you would like to bring extra books for those that can’t bring a book, that would be great!

March 2nd

If you brought a book, you can pick a “new” book to take home. Your teacher will let you know what time to go to the cafeteria to pick your new book.

Yearbooks on SALE NOW!!!The annual WESD Food Drive has started and  runs through Friday, February 23rd.


Our school goal is 5,000 cans. If we reach 5,000, our Principal, Mrs. Johnson will have a special marshmallow surprise waiting for her!!!


Student Council will pick up all food items from classrooms. Please do not place items into the boxes on the stage so that we can keep count.


The class that brings the most items will win a Barro’s pizza party.


FYI – we will not count separate packets of oatmeal, kookaid, drink mixes, etc. as 1 item – you will need a minimum of 5 of these to count as 1 to be fair.

Also, cases of water bottles are accepted, and will be counted as 5 “cans”


Student Council will pick up items between 2:15pm-3:15pm on the following dates:

Student Council will be selling Valentine grams before school (7:45am-8:10am) and during 4th-6thGrade Lunches (11:20am-12:35pm), February 8th-13th. Valentine Grams are 50¢ each, and each one comes with a heart mustache button. They will be delivered to classrooms the morning of Wednesday, February 14th.



 The annual Washington Elementary School District Food Drive will be held February 12th-23rd in support of St. Mary’s Food Bank. Student Council will be collecting cans throughout the 2 weeks, and the classroom that brings the most cans will win a Barro’s pizza party for their class. Our school goal is 5,000 cans, and if we meet our goal, there will be a marshmallow surprise for our wonderful principal Mrs. Johnson.

Pasta for Pennies Fundraiser - Nov. 13-22

Lookout Mountain classrooms will be collecting donations for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society beginning Monday, Nov. 13, through Wednesday, Nov. 22. By donating, you help save the lives of kids with blood cancer! The homeroom that raises the most money will win a catered Olive Garden luncheon for the entire class.

Please join us Thanksgiving week for $1.00 Dress-up Days. By donating $1.00 to the Pasta for Pennies collection box in your classroom, you can come to school dressed up in the following themes:
