  • Portraits
In grades K-3 we are learning about the importance of self portraits. Students are learning the guidelines of drawing faces and then using those skills to draw a self-portrait. They will include symbols as a border to show their interests and hobbies.

  • The importance of art history
This week in art we are going to spend some time focusing on art history and why it's important. We will discuss two famous artworks and students will do partner activities as well as independent work to reflect on the art. They will answer questions to guide their reflection and they will share their ideas with a partner and the whole group when they are done.

  • Painting expectations
As we finish up our first major art projects in each grade level we will be moving on to use the colors we have learned about in a painting. We will be learning about how to use the primary colors to actually mix and make other colors and in grades 4-6 we will be learning how to blend colors with paint. When we paint in art class it is expected that all students use materials appropriately, and that they wear a painting shirt provided so that they do not stain their clothing. I look forward to starting our paintings!

Shaw Butte Rule:
No one has the right to interfere with the learning, safety, or well being of others.

Art Room Expectations:
1. Use all materials SAFELY and correctly.
2. Treat yourself, your classmates, and the teacher with respect.
3. Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
4. Listen quietly when the teacher is talking.

Make Your Day:
Every student has the chance to make their day six times per day. Points are earned if the student made their day for that period. In art class students will earn their points if they do what is expected of them. I expect that all students will be sitting quietly during instruction, that they will do the required classwork. I also expect that all students keep their hands to themselves and treat me, their peers, and themselves with respect.

Students in grades K-2 can earn 10 points per art class and students in grades 3-6 can earn 45 points per art class.
