Welcome to the home page for the WHS Social Studies Department.  Here you will find departmental updates, as well as important documents that can help you meet your goals here at WHS.

One piece of exciting news in the department is that our proposed trip abroad to complement world history curricula was approved by School Committee in September. We are ambitiously recruiting students to run a trip to England and France in April 2017.  There is a link in the menu to the left that can give you more information. More generally, we continue to refine our assessment practices in an effort to give students more feedback within the learning process rather than after work is submitted for a final time. This feedback targets student growth in 5 skill areas: writing, reading, critical thinking, collaboration, and research.  You'll find continued integration of Common Core language and skills when targeting higher order thinking across these skill areas, as well as within common assessments in the department.

As you peruse this site, you'll learn more about our program and how we target student growth in the aforementioned skill areas. The 'Selecting Courses' page is explicitly designed to help students choose the best Social Studies course when selecting courses in the spring. If you are a rising freshmen, be sure to review the resources on this page.

Thank you for visiting our site.
