Hispanic Heritage Month
Basic information about the month
Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15 - October 15 and pays "tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society" (from the LoC at https://www.hispanicheritagemonth.gov/). The term "Hispanic" includes about 62 million people from different Spanish-speaking backgrounds.
The starting date of the celebration, September 15, is the day of independence of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Mexico, Chile, and Belize celebrate their independence a few days later. This year's theme is "Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation."
