
What is AVID? AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID is an in-school academic support system for grades 6-12. It is designed to prepare students for success in college and in Advance Placement courses. AVID is for all students, but targets those in the academic middle. Student Selection Criteria 2.0-3.5 GPA B’s or C’s Average Standardized test scores Historically underserved/ unrepresented in 4-year university 1st Generation to graduate from college Satisfactory Citizenship and Attendance Desire & Determination to go to College | AVID School-Wide: To institutionalize the AVID philosophy and methodology, our teachers participate in staff development training. Teachers understand and use specific AVID strategies. These include Cornell Note Taking, high level questioning, interactive notebooks, daily writing, and reading strategies.
