REPUBLIC RECORDS and AMC have a special surprise in store for audiences everywhere.
On Tuesday March 25, “The Walking Dead AMC Original Soundtrack Vol. 2 (Season 4) EP” will hit stores as well iTunes and all digital retailers. Following up the first two installments of the soundtrack series, this set includes five new and unreleased songs inspired by and featured in the show.
This time around, Portugal. The Man contributes the brooding “Heavy Games”, capturing the narrative’s tense rustic atmosphere with alternative folk grit. The song will also be featured in promo spots for the fourth season on AMC. Meanwhile, Sharon Van Etten offers up the strangely soulful, “Serpents (Basement)”. Premiered during a key episode in the first half of season four, the song instantly slithers into psyches. Lee DeWyze's "Blackbird Song" takes flight in the show during the episode airing March 9, while A.C. Newman's "Be Not So Fearful" plays over a pivotal moment on March 23—days before the EP becomes available. In addition, Ben Nichols serves up satiating sonic prey worth devouring along with the post-apocalyptic epic.
AMC’s “The Walking Dead” returned on February 9 with the mid-season premiere of its fourth season, delivering 15.8 million viewers and 10.4 million adults 18-49. It was the #1 telecast for the night among adults 18-49, including the Sochi Winter Olympics. In the second half of the season, Rick and his group of survivors find themselves separated, lost, and broken in a dangerous world. Both together and apart, they strive to find some kind of safety, some kind of sanctuary while struggling to simply stay alive. Fully exposed to the dangers and brutality of the world, with their stability gone, the group tries to find a home, and themselves again.
The first installment, AMC's "The Walking Dead AMC Original Soundtrack – Vol. 1", proved to be a critical and commercial success last year. Upon release, it reached #2 on the iTunes Overall Top Albums Chart and #1 on the Soundtrack Albums chart. Internationally on the iTunes Soundtrack Albums chart, the set reached #1 in Canada and Brazil, #2 in Australia and Spain, #3 in Mexico, #5 in the UK, France, and Colombia, #6 in Germany, #9 in Chile, #10 in Costa Rica, and #16 in Japan. Meanwhile, “Walking Dead…Sounds of Survival” accompanied the Walmart release of Season 3 on DVD and Blu-Ray.
“The Walking Dead” continues to be the #1 show on all of television among the coveted 18-49 demographic. The series has garnered two Emmy® Awards for Outstanding Prosthetic Make-up, a Golden Globe® Award nomination for Best Television Series - Drama and two WGA Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Writing Derivative New Media, among other accolades. Based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics, “The Walking Dead” stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Chandler Riggs, Melissa McBride, Emily Kinney, Danai Gurira, Chad Coleman and Sonequa Martin-Green. The series is executive produced by Scott M. Gimple, Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Tom Luse and Greg Nicotero.
