Purchasing a Guitar

To succeed in guitar class, students MUST have their own guitar.

Purchasing a Guitar:

· “Classical,” not “Acoustic.”

· 4/4 or full size.

Reputable Manufacturers—student models usually start at about $140:

· Yamaha

· Cordoba

· Ibanez

Reputable Retailers:

· Guitar Center—Parkside Town Commons

· Music and Arts—Crossroads Plaza

· Sam Ash—Capital Boulevard, Raleigh

Recommendations:

· DO NOT BUY Silvertone, 39” DirectlyCheap, Lauren, Lucinda, and similar discount instruments from Costco, Amazon, Target, and Wal-Mart. They often arrive unplayable, and return shipping can be expensive. Models from the manufacturers above will retain much of their value and can easily be sold if your child decides on a different elective in the future.

· If you are financially constrained, please let me know as soon as soon as possible. I have a limited number of guitars available to loan.

· I am working on purchasing a class set of guitars so students will not have to transport their guitars to and from school every day, but this will require fundraising and is not in the near future.

· If you like adventures and saving money, check out the used selection at Guitar Center, which also has a location on Capital Boulevard.
