What does TED stand for? 

TED stands for Technology, Engineering & Design. 

What TED courses will be available in the 2017-18 school year?

6th grade: Project Revive 
(2nd nine weeks would be Exploring Technology)

7th grade: Invention & Innovation 
(2nd nine weeks would be Exploring Engineering & Design)

8th grade: Design & Creativity 
(2nd nine weeks would be Technology & Society)

Do I have to take level 1 to take levels 2 & 3?

No! There is no prerequisite for any of these courses. You have the ability to take my class any year that you are at DDMS without worrying about repeating the course.

All students will...

  • Learn basic measuring skills
  • Use Google SketchUp, a 3D imaging software
  • Learn & use the Engineering Design Process
  • Learn how to work effectively in a team setting
  • Learn how to communicate their ideas in various ways


Course Descriptions & Projects/Topics for each course...

"Project Revive" + "Exploring Technology" (6th grade)
Focuses on applying the design process in the invention of a new product. Through engaging activities & hands-on projects, students focus on understanding how criteria & constraints affect designs.
Projects/Topics include -- Inventions throughout history, furniture design, disasters and technology, & The Lorax project
** Includes a post-exam at the end of the semester **

"Invention & Innovation" + "Exploring Engineering & Design" (7th grade)
Focuses on the design process in the invention of new products, processes, & systems. Through engaging activities & hands-on projects, students will focus on understanding how criteria, constraints, processes, society, & the surrounding environment affect designs.
Projects/Topics include -- inventions throughout history; classroom problem design; inventors; controversial technologies; communicating ideas through advertisements; and a look at manufacturing, information & communication, & bio-related technologies.
** Includes a post-exam at the end of the semester **

"Design & Creativity" + "Technology & Society" (8th grade)
Focuses on applying the design process in the invention or innovation of a new product, process, or system. Through engaging activities & hands-on projects, students focus on understanding how criteria, constraints, processes, & daily life affect designs. Students will focus on how technology allows society to grow, despite negative impacts along the way.
Projects/topics include -- technology around you; communicating design; innovations of the iPod; oil spills; & transportation.
