Magnet Events and Information

We invite you to explore Broughton and learn about the great possibilities it offers to students!

We love to welcome prospective students and their families to our school for tours, open houses, artistic presentations, and athletic events! Events will take place virtually for now, and we'll adjust to other formats if possible as the year progresses. Once you are registered for a tour or open house, a few days prior to the event, you will receive an email with further details, such as the weblink for virtual presentations. All events will provide opportunities for prospective students and families to learn about Broughton and speak with current Broughton students, parents, and faculty.

Morning tours will take place at 9:15 AM on Sept 22, Oct 13, Oct 27, Nov 10, Dec 8, Dec 15, Jan 5, Jan 26, Feb 9, Feb 23, Mar 16, and Apr 13.  Evening tours will take place at 5:30 PM on Dec 3 and Jan 14. All morning and evening tours will include presentations from students, parents, and staff members in addition to an an artistic presentation and a question and answer session. Evening tours will provide an additional optional breakout session at the end for students and families who are joining us in the Spanish immersion magnet pathway from Oberlin Middle School.

Additionally, we will have a virtual
Open House starting at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, November 17. The Open House will include an introductory session for everyone, followed by a variety of breakout session options (academics, arts, athletics, clubs, etc.). Participants will be able to choose several breakout sessions to attend.

Rising 9th grade students living anywhere in Wake County are able to apply for the Broughton magnet program. All magnet and base students have the opportunity to participate in the global studies and IB opportunities. Please visit the WCPSS Magnet website for more information about the application timeline and procedures. Please note that the magnet application period ends in January, so our spring tours take place after magnet applications close.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with Dr. David Brooks, the Broughton Magnet Coordinator, at dbrooks@wcpss.net.
